The desire to document these encounters, each with a unique perspective and renewed memories, has been a driving force behind my photography. This book is a culmination of these experiences, born from a wish to share the emotions and stories that have been woven through my travels.
The first part of the book invites readers to explore the eight regions of Southern Italy, as seen through the curious eyes of a "vagabond" traveler. These vivid accounts capture the essence of the places visited and the interactions with the local people, providing a glimpse into the rich tapestry of this enchanting land.
The second part of the book delves into the traditional regional recipes and their related nutritional data, historical anecdotes, and intriguing culinary customs. Sixty percent of the recipes featured reflect a distinct "Sicilianity," a culinary identity that has been shaped by years of exposure to the aromatic and flavorful dishes prepared in the kitchens of family, friends, and local eateries. The remaining recipes were inspired by the culinary delights discovered in Abruzzo, Molise, Campania, Basilicata, Puglia, Calabria, and Sardinia.
The final section of the book explores the benefits of the Southern Italian dietary lifestyle and its positive impact on overall health. This exploration serves to highlight the rich and nourishing traditions that have sustained the people of this region for generations.
Throughout the pages of this book, over one hundred composite images and one hundred forty recipes invite readers to immerse themselves in the captivating world of Southern Italian travel and cuisine. This visual and culinary journey promises to transport the reader, igniting a desire to explore the Bel Paese and its remarkable gastronomic heritage.
